Summer transfer deadline day 2024: All you need to know

What time does the window close in England and Europe? Will there be any last-minute deals?

The Premier League season is now under way and clubs in England are running out of time to strengthen their teams for the first half of the season. 
This is the final week of the summer transfer window. Business closes on Friday (August 30).
The transfer window in England is set to be shorter this year, with business concluding on Friday, August 30 at 11pm. 
The Premier League and Scottish Premiership brought forward deadline day to fall in line with other major leagues in Europe.
However, clubs can apply for a ‘deal sheet’ two hours before the deadline, if they are concerned about a deal for a player that will not get over the line before 11pm. 
The deal sheet allows a club to confirm that an agreement has been reached and to allow for additional time to submit the required documentation. 
La Liga’s window ends at the same time but French teams in Ligue 1 have an hour less to complete deals with a 10pm deadline. The Bundesliga window closes at the end of the working day, at 5pm, while transfers in Serie A must be completed by 7pm.
Chelsea are expected to be the centre of attention in the closing days of the window. They want to add a proven centre-forward to their ranks, with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen in the frame after Romelu Lukaku agreed to move in the other direction.
There is also the question of Raheem Sterling’s future to sort. Chelsea have some interest in Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho, and a swap deal involving Sterling has been suggested. Chelsea have a host of fringe players, including Ben Chilwell and Armando Broja, they will look to move on. 
Manchester United have made a decisive breakthrough in negotiations for Uruguay midfielder Manuel Ugarte. Scott McTominay is likely to move to Napoli.
Liverpool are yet to sign an outfield player this summer, and nothing appears imminent on that front. Manchester City could look to recruit a forward to replace Julian Alvarez. 
Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah is poised to finally move on, joining Crystal Palace after moves to Marseille and then Nottingham Forest broke down. Arsenal would also listen to offers for Aaron Ramsdale, Reiss Nelson and Jakub Kiwior.
With Emile Smith Rowe and Fabio Vieira also out of the door, the decks could be clear for an attacking signing, but no name has emerged. Mikel Arteta admitted Arsenal were short after Gabriel Jesus missed the trip to Aston Villa with an injury.
The focus at Tottenham is expected to be on outgoings, and trimming the squad of its remaining fringe players.
Nottingham Forest have turned their attention to Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez, and a £29 million deal is expected to go through.
Across the Midlands, Gary O’Neil has pleaded with the Wolves board to strengthen the squad with a winger and centre-back on his wishlist.
Still to be resolved is the future of Brentford striker Ivan Toney, subject of interest from Saudi Arabia. 
Newcastle look like finishing the summer with Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimarães in place, and must decide whether to bid again for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. Palace look to have held on to star player Eberechi Eze.
In the Premier League, Tottenham have landed Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke for an initial free of £55m plus add-ons.
Manchester United have stepped up their summer spending plans by agreeing deals with Bayern Munich for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui to bolster Erik ten Hag’s defence for the season. 
Meanwhile, Manchester City have sold Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid in a deal worth a worth €95 million (£81.5 million) with the Argentina World Cup-winner becoming the Premier League champions’ record sale. City have also re-signed Treble-winning captain Ilkay Gundogan on a free after he left Barcelona.
City’s main title rivals have been relatively quiet. Arsenal have added defender Riccardo Calafiori, while the arrival of midfielder Mikel Merino is expected to be announced shortly. Liverpool’s first signing of the Arne Slot era is expected to be Valencia and Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Aston Villa have thickened their squad to adapt to the challenge of Champions League football, with Amadou Onana their most expensive buy at £50 million from Everton. Douglas Luiz and Moussa Diaby have been sold.
West Ham have signed Aaron Wan-Bissaska on a seven-year deal as their spending spree continues. The right-back is the club’s eighth senior signing of the window, with Crysencio Summerville, Max Kilman and Niclas Füllkrug other high-profile purchases.
As expected, Chelsea have been one of the busiest clubs in the transfer window. Winger Pedro Neto has been their most high-profile signing, with the surprise return of Joao Felix a close second.
Thiago Silva has been replaced by Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham, while Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall arrived from Leicester City to link back up with Maresca. 
Sadly, there is not a great deal to watch on the day, and Sky Sports News has rather lost its monopoly on the day’s events.
